Founded on May 26, 1946 by four local growers seeking to replant vineyards devastated by World War II, Cave de Cleebourg is the northernmost wine cooperative on the Alsace Wine Route, located within the Parc naturel régional des Vosges du Nord, just a few kilometers from the German border. What began with 435 cooperators sharing 70 hectares has grown into a cooperative of around 195 winegrowers cultivating roughly 200 hectares across the villages of Cleebourg, Oberhoffen-lès-Wissembourg, Riedseltz, Rott, Steinseltz and Wissembourg. The vineyard's ten distinct 'lieux-dits' terroirs, shaped by sandstone and clay-limestone soils and a cool northern microclimate, yield Sylvaner, Pinot Blanc, Muscat, Riesling, Pinot Gris, Gewürztraminer, Pinot Noir, Auxerrois and Crémant d'Alsace of notable freshness and minerality. About 60% of the harvest is picked by hand, and the cooperative has repeatedly been recognized at the Concours du Sigille des Vins d'Alsace and other regional competitions.
