Auxerrois

About this wine

A single-vineyard Auxerrois from the Keimberg lieu-dit west of the village of Cleebourg, benefiting from a southwest exposure and sandy-silty-clay soil. Very well balanced, combining fruity character with pleasant acidity, with aromas of white-fleshed fruit such as pear and apple and a floral touch that makes it fresh and thirst-quenching. Annual production is limited to around 8,000-12,000 bottles.

Beginner's Note

A gentle, easy-drinking white — soft pear and apple fruit with just enough acidity.

Sommelier's Note

"Auxerrois rarely gets a spotlight of its own, but Keimberg's southwest-facing site gives it real definition — this is Alsace's most underrated everyday white."

Food Pairings

A natural match for quiche Lorraine, creamy cheeses, and simple grilled white fish; its gentle fruit and acidity also suit light vegetable dishes.

When to drink it

Casual lunches, light appetizers, everyday white-wine drinking

Frequently Asked Questions

What kind of grape is Auxerrois, and how is it different from Pinot Blanc?
Auxerrois is a distinct Alsatian white grape often blended with or mistaken for Pinot Blanc; on its own it tends to be softer and rounder, with notes of pear, apple and white flowers, as shown in this Keimberg bottling.
Why is production so limited?
The Keimberg lieu-dit covers only about 3.42 hectares, so annual output is capped at roughly 8,000-12,000 bottles.
What should I eat with Auxerrois Lieu-Dit Keimberg?
It works beautifully with quiche Lorraine, creamy cheeses, and light white fish or vegetable dishes.
