Cantina del Glicine
カンティーナ・デル・グリチーネ
A 1582 cellar in Neive keeping Barbaresco's oldest traditions alive since 1980.
Cantina del Glicine is a small, family-run estate in the historic old town of Neive, at the heart of the Barbaresco appellation in Piedmont. The winery was founded in 1980 when Adriana Marzi and Roberto Bruno left city life in Milan to take over Roberto's family property, but the site itself is far older: their cellar was carved out in 1582 by Count dal Pozzo della Cisterna and ranks among the oldest working cellars in all of Piedmont, part of the Langhe-Roero-Monferrato UNESCO World Heritage landscape. From roughly 4-6 hectares of estate vineyards -- including the prized Currà cru, planted by Roberto himself on pale, southwest-facing terraces -- the estate produces about 3,000 cases a year. Winemaking follows strictly traditional methods: long macerations and extended aging in large Slavonian oak botti rather than small barriques, preserving the purity, structure and long aging potential of Nebbiolo in a classic, old-school Langhe style.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What is the winemaking philosophy of Cantina del Glicine?
- Strict traditionalism: long macerations and aging exclusively in large old Slavonian oak botti (never small barriques), so the Nebbiolo grape and the Neive terroir express themselves with minimal winemaker intervention.
- Why is Cantina del Glicine associated with such an old history if it was founded in 1980?
- The winery as a commercial estate was founded in 1980 by Adriana Marzi and Roberto Bruno, but they took over Roberto's family property, whose cellar dates back to 1582, built by Count dal Pozzo della Cisterna -- making it one of the oldest working cellars in Piedmont, even though bottling under the Glicine name began more recently.
- What is the Currà cru?
- Currà is Cantina del Glicine's flagship single-vineyard Barbaresco, from about 1.5 hectares of terraced, pale southwest-facing soil planted by Roberto Bruno himself; it is considered the estate's most concentrated and age-worthy wine.
- Do Cantina del Glicine wines pair well with Japanese cuisine?
- Yes -- the refined tannins and bright acidity of their Barbaresco pair very well with umami-rich dishes such as grilled eel (unagi) or soy-braised meats (nimono).
