Fattoria AL FIORE

ファットリア アル フィオーレ

Additive-free natural wines from a converted schoolhouse in Miyagi.

Fattoria AL FIORE is a natural winery at the foot of the Zao mountains in Kawasaki, Miyagi Prefecture, founded in 2018 by Hirotaka and Reina Meguro. Hirotaka previously ran an Italian restaurant called AL FIORE in Sendai from 2005; in 2014 the couple began replanting abandoned farmland in the Hasekura district with grapevines, and in 2018 they converted the gymnasium of a former elementary school into their winery and shop. They make wine with no additives, no commercial yeast, no sulphites, no fining, and no filtration, relying entirely on wild-yeast fermentation and tasting each harvest before deciding how to vinify it rather than imposing a fixed style. The winery produces two lines: the flagship Fattoria AL FIORE series from estate-grown grapes, and the NECO series (named after their resident cats) made from grapes sourced across Tohoku.
