Ryomi Vineyard & Winery sits on a hillside overlooking the Nanatsumori mountains in Taiwa, Miyagi Prefecture, at an elevation of 340 meters. With 15 hectares of estate vineyards, it is the largest winery vineyard in Miyagi Prefecture. Founded in July 2015 by a husband-and-wife team, the winery planted its first vines in 2016, released its inaugural wines in 2017, and opened its direct shop in 2018, followed by an on-site restaurant and lodging facility in 2020. The winery's name, Ryomi (了美), combines one character from each founder's name, symbolizing the couple's shared journey. Cultivating varieties such as Chardonnay, Merlot, and Muscat Bailey A, Ryomi crafts wines that reflect the cool climate and rich nature of Tohoku. Its wines have earned recognition at international competitions including the Decanter World Wine Awards 2025, the Feminalise World Wine Competition 2025, and a gold medal at a Paris wine competition in 2021.
