Yamamoto Ichigo Farm
山元いちご農園
A tsunami-recovery winery fermenting pure strawberry juice into genuine wine.
Yamamoto Ichigo Farm is a strawberry grower and winery in Yamamoto Town, Miyagi Prefecture, founded in 2011 as a reconstruction project by local growers whose fields were devastated by the 2011 tsunami. Now one of the Tohoku region's largest strawberry farms (roughly 32,000 square meters and some 230,000 plants), it built its own on-site winery to make a genuinely fermented strawberry wine rather than the alcohol-and-juice blends (technically liqueurs) that most 'strawberry wine' products on the market actually are. Morning-picked strawberries from the farm are pressed and the juice itself is fermented, with no added coloring or flavoring, yielding an authentic fruit wine (categorized as 果実酒 under Japanese liquor tax law, distinct from リキュール). The lineup includes 苺香 (Ichikaori, dry), 愛苺 (Manaichigo, semi-dry), and 苺夢 (Berrydream, sparkling), all with a notably light alcohol content of around 5% ABV — lower than typical grape wine, reflecting the lower natural sugar of strawberries and the farm's aim for an easy-drinking style. The wines are officially certified as a Yamamoto Town regional brand product and are sold through the farm's shop, online store, and as furusato nozei (hometown tax) gifts.
