First released in 1996 following a collaboration begun in 1990 with Giorgio Pinchiorri of Florence's legendary Enoteca Pinchiorri, Solare is one of the original Super Tuscans to pair Sangiovese with an aromatic minority variety. A blend of roughly 80% Sangiovese and 20% Malvasia Nera, it undergoes fermentation in Slovenian oak vats, around 18 months in French barrique, and further bottle aging before release.

Sommelier's Note

Solare put Capannelle on the map as a Super Tuscan pioneer — it remains one of the most aromatically distinctive Sangiovese blends in Chianti.

New to wine?

A gateway into Super Tuscan territory — more aromatic and immediately expressive than a straight Sangiovese.

Food Pairings

Excellent with grilled lamb chops, duck breast, and dishes featuring balsamic reductions. The aromatic lift from Malvasia Nera also makes it a natural match for dishes with dried herbs.

When to drink it
