Campblesco Red (Barrel) is a red carbonated sparkling wine made from 100% Campbell Early grapes grown around Tsuno Town, Miyazaki — the same table-grape variety that has anchored the Osuzu district's viticulture since shortly after WWII and forms the backbone of Tsuno Wine's signature lineup. The name 'Campblesco' fuses 'Campbell' (Campbell Early) with an Italian-sparkling-wine-style suffix evocative of 'Prosecco,' signaling the winery's ambition to give this humble table grape an elegant, Euro-sparkling-style makeover. First released in winter 2019 after repeated trial and error, the wine is made using a maceration ('Kanbutsu Jikomi') fermentation on Campbell Early skins to extract the variety's concentrated aromatics and soft tannins, then finished by charging the base wine with CO2 gas pressure (a carbonation method rather than classic bottle- or tank-fermented sparkling) and briefly rested in barrel, which lends faint notes of vanilla and spice to the naturally jammy, dried-fig-and-raisin fruit. It is bottled in two formats — a standard 750ml bottle and a single-serving 250ml bottle — both at 8% ABV, and won a Gold Award at the Sakura Wine Award 2022.

Sommelier's Note

Campblesco proves Campbell Early can do more than simple table-wine duty — the carbonation and brief barrel touch turn this humble grape into Tsuno Wine's most playful, crowd-pleasing red sparkling, and its Sakura Award 2022 gold is well earned.

New to wine?

A gentle, easy-drinking red sparkling that tastes almost like a grape dessert soda — soft tannins, jammy fruit and fine bubbles make it a friendly first step into red sparkling wine, especially for those who find still reds too heavy.

Food Pairings

Best served slightly chilled at 8-10°C. Its concentrated Campbell fruit and gentle tannins pair beautifully with sweet-savory glazed dishes: teriyaki chicken, yakitori with sweet tare sauce, and sukiyaki. It also stands up well to grilled red-meat steaks at a backyard barbecue.

When to drink it

Casual gatherings, home barbecues, and festive parties where a fun, easy-drinking red sparkling suits the mood — also a good gift thanks to its playful, punny name.

Terroir & Winemaking

100% Campbell Early grapes from the Tsuno/Osuzu district, Miyazaki. Fermented on skins ('kanbutsu jikomi' / cuvaison-style maceration) to draw out concentrated fruit aromatics and soft tannins, then carbonated by charging the base wine with CO2 gas pressure rather than through classic secondary fermentation, followed by a short barrel rest that imparts light vanilla and spice notes. Off-dry to dry, ABV 8%, serving temperature 8-12°C. Sold in two formats: a 750ml bottle (¥2,200-2,300 incl. tax, gift-box option available) and a 250ml single-serving bottle (¥880 incl. tax). Gold Award, Sakura Wine Award 2022.
