Le Maritate

レ・マリターテ

Cappella Sant'Andrea

Sangiovese · Colorino · Alicante · Ciliegiolo · Trebbiano · Malvasia

About this wine

A field-blend Toscana IGT from a historic vineyard where century-old vines are still trained the ancient way — 'married' to living field maple trees rather than trellised, which gives the wine its name ('the married ones'). The mixed planting of Sangiovese, Colorino, Alicante, Ciliegiolo, Trebbiano and Malvasia is co-harvested and fermented spontaneously in cement for about four weeks on the skins, then aged 12 months in cement and 6 months in bottle. Ruby red, with notes of currant and wildflowers and a fresh, slightly tannic finish.

Beginner's Note

A historic, story-rich field blend — best approached once you know the estate's classic bottlings.

Sommelier's Note

"A living link to pre-modern Tuscan viticulture — vines still married to maple trees, co-fermented as a true field blend. There is nothing else quite like it in San Gimignano."

Food Pairings

A wine of place and history — pairs beautifully with wild boar ragu, roasted game, and aged Tuscan pecorino.
