Roche-Mère takes its name from the pink granite bedrock ('roche-mère') that weathers into the granitic arena and coarse siliceous sands of Juliénas. Made from 100% hand-harvested Gamay, it is expressive and fleshy, deeply colored, with real aging potential for the appellation.
Juliénas often gets overlooked next to Morgon and Moulin-à-Vent, but Roche-Mère's density shows why insiders rate this cru highly.
New to wine?
Fleshy and approachable, yet with enough backbone to reward a bit of patience in the cellar.

Casual bistro-style dinners, charcuterie boards, weeknight red-meat dishes
Terroir & Winemaking

Frequently Asked Questions
- What does 'Roche-Mère' mean?
- It refers to the pink granite bedrock underlying the vineyard, which weathers into the granitic sand ('arena') that defines Juliénas' terroir.
- Is Juliénas similar to Morgon or Moulin-à-Vent?
- It shares Beaujolais' granite-driven character but tends to be fleshier and rounder in youth, while still capable of some development with age.
- What temperature should it be served at?
- Around 14-16°C, slightly cooler than a Burgundy red but warmer than a light Beaujolais Nouveau, to let its fruit and structure show together.
