Sapporo Fujino Winery is a family-run winery in the Fujino district of Sapporo's Minami-ku, about 30 minutes from the city center. Founded in 2009 by two sisters, the winery grew out of a deeply personal wish: their younger brother, a wine lover, hoped for grapes grown with minimal pesticides so he could drink wine that was gentle on the body. Although he did not live to taste the finished wine, his wish became the winery's founding philosophy. Using grapes from their own vineyard and from contract farmers across Hokkaido, the winery lets fermentation proceed naturally with wild yeast, uses little to no cultured yeast, antioxidants or other additives, and bottles its wines unfiltered. It cultivates a wide range of varieties -- including Niagara, Campbell Early, Muller-Thurgau, Kerner, Yamabudo (wild grape) and Yamasauvignon -- crafting white, rose, red and sparkling wines. The winery received three stars (the top rating) in the Japan Winery Award 2023, and its on-site cafe-restaurant Vigne serves pizza and pasta paired with the estate's wines.
