OTARUVALLEY is OSA WINERY's flagship white wine, a blend of eight grape varieties — Pinot Gris, Gewürztraminer, Chardonnay, Kerner, Albariño, Viognier, Malvasia and Pinot Noir — grown entirely on the winery's own south-facing Shioya vineyard in Otaru, Hokkaido. Aromatic varieties such as Gewürztraminer are picked early to preserve fragrance, while structural varieties like Chardonnay are left to fully ripen; grapes are harvested in five passes, gently low-pressure pressed, and fermented separately by tank before blending. The 2022 vintage shows aromas of apple, pear, white rose, white peach and sea breeze, with a soft, well-balanced palate carrying a subtle saline note from Shioya's seabed-volcanic soils and a gently sweet, lingering finish. The 2020 vintage was rated 92 points by James Suckling.

Sommelier's Note

OSA WINERY's most ambitious white — an eight-variety Otaru field blend whose signature sea-breeze salinity, drawn straight from Shioya's ancient seabed soils, makes it unmistakably a wine of place.

Terroir & Winemaking

Estate-grown eight-variety field blend from the Shioya vineyard in Otaru. Harvested in five passes from early October depending on each variety's target ripeness (aromatic varieties picked earlier, structural varieties left to fully ripen), gently low-pressure pressed, and fermented separately by variety/tank before final blending. Grown without herbicides or chemical fertilizers, with pesticide use kept to roughly a third of conventional practice; the steep slope is worked entirely by hand.
