Kasugai Winery Haru no Kaze is an urban winery located in Kasugai City, Aichi Prefecture, on the northern edge of Nagoya. It is operated by Funato Denki, a family-run electrical control panel manufacturer founded in 1967, and was launched by its second-generation president, Takahiro Funato, who realized a wine-making dream three decades in the making after studying winemaking for three years at a wine college in Fukui Prefecture starting in 2020. The winery opened in August 2023 and released its first three wines that December: the red "Yu" (Merlot), the white "Yasui" (Delaware), and the rosé "Ki" (Muscat Bailey A). Rather than growing grapes locally, the winery crafts its wines from carefully selected, high-quality Yamagata Prefecture grapes, bringing small-batch, hands-on winemaking into an urban setting where visitors can watch the process up close.
