Barbera d'Alba Superiore Carrà

バルベーラ・ダルバ・スペリオーレ カッラ

Cascina Penna-Currado

Barbera

About this wine

A single-vineyard Barbera from two south-west-facing parcels named Carrà in the San Sebastiano area of Monforte d'Alba, planted in 1965 and 2000. High altitude, cooling air currents and late ripening from old vines concentrate the fruit while preserving acidity. The wine shows a deep, youthful colour with ripe plum, blueberry and pressed lavender, iron and gamey notes, balsamic touches, and a crisp minerality that balances its full body through to an elegant, herb-tinged finish. Note: this Carrà bottling is produced entirely by Cascina Penna-Currado and is distinct from the unrelated, separately owned producer Cascina Carrà, also based in San Sebastiano di Monforte.

Beginner's Note

A bold, structured Barbera for those who want more concentration than an everyday bottling.

Sommelier's Note

"One of the most concentrated Barbera bottlings coming out of Monforte d'Alba right now — old vines and altitude do the heavy lifting here, not oak."

Food Pairings

A full-bodied Barbera suited to braised beef, grilled lamb, and aged Parmigiano-Reggiano; its bright acidity also cuts through richer, fattier grilled dishes.

When to drink it

Grilled red meats, hearty winter dinners, cellar candidate
