Cantina Barbanera

Sangiovese · Cabernet Sauvignon · Merlot

About this wine

A Toscana Rosso IGT 'Super Tuscan' style wine from Barbanera, blending Sangiovese with Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. A portion of the Sangiovese grapes is dried for 7-13 days before fermentation, losing up to 30% of their weight and concentrating fruitiness and ripeness. Part of the blend is then aged four months in new French barrique, resulting in a bold, velvety, full-bodied wine loaded with ripe dark cherry, plum, creamy chocolate, and toasty oak, around 14% ABV.

Beginner's Note

A bold, jammy crowd-pleaser — great for those who like their reds rich and oaky.

Sommelier's Note

"The partial appassimento drying is what turns an ordinary Sangiovese blend into something velvety and dessert-adjacent."

Food Pairings

Suits hearty pasta with meat ragù, grilled red meats, and game; the chocolate and oak notes also make it a fun match for dark-chocolate desserts.

When to drink it

Barbecues, hearty meat dinners, casual gatherings needing a bold red
