Barolo Le Rocche del Falletto Riserva

バローロ・レ・ロッケ・デル・ファレット・リゼルヴァ

Bruno Giacosa

Nebbiolo

About this wine

Often called 'the Romanée-Conti of Barolo,' this is the pinnacle of the Falletto estate, sourced from four south-facing parcels on the upper slope of the Falletto vineyard in Serralunga d'Alba, planted with vines over 50 years old. Vinified and bottled separately from the rest of the estate since the late 1990s, it is released as a red-label Riserva only in the finest vintages, following an amphitheater-shaped, southwest-facing exposure on calcareous clay soil that yields extraordinary concentration and longevity.

Beginner's Note

One of the most collectible Barolos in existence — extremely powerful when young, so decant 2-3 hours ahead or cellar for a decade or more.

Sommelier's Note

"This is Nebbiolo distilled to its most uncompromising form — if you only ever try one 'unicorn' Barolo, make it this one."

Food Pairings

Pairs with slow-braised short rib, wild boar ragù, and truffle-forward dishes. In a Japanese context, aged wagyu sukiyaki or shigureni (ginger-simmered beef) offer a refined match.

When to drink it

Terroir & Winemaking

Grapes from the 'Vigna Le Rocche' parcels (old vines 50+ years, calcareous clay, southwest exposure) are fermented in stainless steel, then aged in large Slavonian/French oak botti for roughly 30-48 months depending on vintage before extensive bottle aging. Riserva red-label release is declared only in outstanding years.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is Le Rocche del Falletto considered separate from the regular Barolo Falletto?
Since the late 1990s, grapes from the four south-facing 'Vigna Le Rocche' parcels — the estate's oldest vines — have been vinified and bottled separately, distinguishing it as the top tier of the Falletto vineyard.
Is it made every vintage?
The red-label Riserva designation is only used in vintages the Giacosa estate considers exceptional; in other years the fruit may be blended into the standard Falletto bottling.
How long should it be cellared?
Its structure and acidity support 20-40+ years of aging in top vintages, though it can also be enjoyed young with generous decanting.
