Roncicone

ロンチコーネ

Barone Ricasoli

Sangiovese

About this wine

One of Barone Ricasoli's three single-vineyard Sangiovese Gran Selezione crus, from a vineyard with gentle slopes and sandy soils rich in smooth stones formed from ancient marine sediments, at roughly 300 metres elevation. This unusual soil gives Roncicone a minerality and acidity that is atypical for Sangiovese, resulting in a medium-bodied wine with fine tannins and a creamy finish.

Beginner's Note

The freshest, most mineral-driven of Ricasoli's three Sangiovese crus.

Sommelier's Note

"Roncicone is proof that Sangiovese can be mineral and saline — this is Chianti Classico by way of the seabed, not the vineyard."

Food Pairings

Its freshness and minerality make it a natural match for grilled white meats, herb-roasted chicken, and tomato-based Tuscan dishes.

When to drink it

Lighter red-meat dinners, warm-weather occasions, comparative Sangiovese tastings.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is unique about Roncicone's terroir?
Its vineyard sits on sandy soils made of ancient marine sediment with smooth stones, which gives the wine an atypical mineral and acidic character for Sangiovese.
What does Roncicone taste like?
Fresh and zesty, with notes of orange, cherry and sandalwood in some vintages, or red and black fruit with iron and mineral notes in others; medium-bodied with fine tannins and a creamy finish.
Is Roncicone the lightest of Ricasoli's Gran Selezione crus?
It tends to show the freshest, most mineral profile of the three single-vineyard crus (alongside Colledilà and CeniPrimo), though all are full Gran Selezione wines with serious structure.
