Added to the range in 2017 from rented parcels in Chénas — the smallest of the ten Beaujolais crus — on granite and schist soils, immediately converted to organic farming. Made from the domaine's younger Chénas vines (the oldest vines go into the Vieilles Vignes bottling). Bright red fruit and subtle florals with a silky texture, carrying the cru's characteristic licorice and violet notes.

Sommelier's Note

Proof that Chénas — Beaujolais' smallest cru — deserves far more attention: silky, floral, and effortlessly drinkable.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is this different from the domaine's Morgon?
Chénas and Morgon are separate Beaujolais crus with different soils; Thevenet's Chénas parcels were only added in 2017 and sit on granite and schist, giving a lighter, more floral profile than his Morgon bottlings.
How does this differ from the Chénas Vieilles Vignes?
This bottling comes from the domaine's younger Chénas vines, while the oldest vines (planted 1935 and 1865) are reserved for the more concentrated Vieilles Vignes cuvée.
Is Chénas a well-known Beaujolais cru?
Chénas is the smallest of the ten Beaujolais crus and is often overlooked, but it produces aromatic, floral wines with real finesse.
