TWIN PEAKS ROUGE is Tsukuba Winery's top-tier red blend, first released with the 2023 vintage as a wine made entirely from European (vinifera) varieties grown on the granite-derived soils at the foot of Mount Tsukuba in Ibaraki Prefecture. The blend is roughly 48% Marselan, 26% Tannat, and 26% Merlot, giving a soft, silky mouthfeel layered with black cherry and cassis-like fruit. It sits above both the entry-level, Fuji-no-Yume-based TSUKUBA ROUGE and the four-variety TSUKUBA ROUGE Premium (which still leads with the domestic hybrid Fuji no Yume), and is a separate cuvée from the winery's single-varietal TWIN PEAKS Marselan Premium — TWIN PEAKS ROUGE is a three-variety Bordeaux-style blend, while the Marselan Premium is built from 100% Marselan alone.

Sommelier's Note

Tsukuba Winery's most ambitious all-vinifera red to date — the Marselan-Tannat-Merlot blend trades the winery's signature Fuji no Yume for structure and silkiness, making it the cuvée to reach for when you want to see how far Ibaraki terroir can go with classic European varieties.

New to wine?

A fuller, more structured red than the winery's everyday bottlings — a good next step for those who have enjoyed TSUKUBA ROUGE and want to try a richer, all-European-variety blend.

Food Pairings

The winery itself recommends pairing TWIN PEAKS ROUGE with rich, sauce-driven dishes such as bolognese, beef stroganoff, and soy-simmered chicken liver. Its silky tannins and dark-fruit depth also stand up well to grilled lamb, demi-glace-based dishes, and aged hard cheeses.

When to drink it

Special dinners, gifting, and pairing with rich meat dishes or a celebratory meal.

Terroir & Winemaking

A three-variety blend of Marselan (approx. 48%), Tannat (approx. 26%), and Merlot (approx. 26%), all grown on the granite-derived soils at the foot of Mount Tsukuba and vinified using only European (vinifera) grapes — distinguishing it from the winery's Fuji-no-Yume-based Tsukuba Rouge lines. Dry, full-bodied, with soft, well-integrated tannins. 750ml.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is TWIN PEAKS ROUGE made from?
It is a blend of roughly 48% Marselan, 26% Tannat, and 26% Merlot — all European (vinifera) varieties grown at the foot of Mount Tsukuba in Ibaraki Prefecture, first released with the 2023 vintage.
How is TWIN PEAKS ROUGE different from TWIN PEAKS Marselan Premium?
TWIN PEAKS ROUGE is a three-variety blend (Marselan, Tannat, Merlot), while TWIN PEAKS Marselan Premium is a single-varietal wine made from 100% Marselan. They are two distinct cuvées in the same top-tier Twin Peaks red lineup, released in different vintages under different names.
How does TWIN PEAKS ROUGE compare to TSUKUBA ROUGE and TSUKUBA ROUGE Premium?
TSUKUBA ROUGE is a single-varietal, entry-level red made from 100% Fuji no Yume. TSUKUBA ROUGE Premium blends Fuji no Yume (about 57%) with Tannat, Marselan, and Merlot, aged about 10 months in oak. TWIN PEAKS ROUGE sits above both: it uses no Fuji no Yume at all, being made purely from European varieties (Marselan, Tannat, Merlot), giving it a fuller, more Bordeaux-like structure.
What food pairs well with TWIN PEAKS ROUGE?
The winery recommends rich, sauce-based dishes such as bolognese, beef stroganoff, and soy-simmered chicken liver. It also pairs well with grilled lamb and aged hard cheeses.
