Assemblage Blanc Réserve Privée is the top-tier white cuvée of Tainai Kogen Winery, a small-lot bottling of the same Chardonnay–Sauvignon Blanc blend as the estate's entry-level Assemblage Blanc. It is made from hand-selected free-run juice of grapes grown on the winery's own steep, wind-swept slope in Niigata's Tainai highlands, then given extended barrel aging rather than the stainless-steel-only vinification used for the standard cuvée, and is finished with a wax-capped, gift-box presentation. The 2014 vintage won bronze in the European white varieties category at the Japan Wine Competition 2017. Expect a more textured, layered expression than the standard Assemblage Blanc, with citrus and acacia-blossom aromatics wrapped in a rounder, oak-touched palate.
The Réserve Privée shows what Tainai Kogen's white blend can do with barrel aging and free-run juice alone — more textured and gift-worthy than the everyday Assemblage Blanc, without losing its citrus-driven identity.
New to wine?
A great next step after the standard Assemblage Blanc — same friendly citrus fruit, with a rounder, more serious oak-aged texture.
Food Pairings
Its rounder, oak-touched texture pairs well with richer white-fish preparations, roast chicken, and cream-based dishes, as well as semi-hard cheeses — a step up from the standard cuvée's lighter pairings.
When to drink it
Special dinners, gifting (thanks to the wax-capped gift-box presentation), and moments to showcase Japanese winemaking's top-tier white blends.
Terroir & Winemaking
Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc grown on the estate's steep, south-southwest-facing slope (elevation approx. 250m) in Tainai, Niigata. Made from free-run juice only, in a small-lot bottling, with barrel aging rather than the all-stainless-steel process used for the standard Assemblage Blanc. ABV 12.5%.
