Assemblage Blanc is Tainai Kogen Winery's signature white blend, pairing the estate's two flagship white varieties, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc, grown on the same steep, wind-swept municipal slopes in Niigata's Tainai highlands as the winery's red cuvées. Vinified and aged in stainless steel to preserve freshness, it shows lively citrus acidity with delicate notes of acacia and apple blossom, layered over a fuller body and fruit character reminiscent of the surrounding mountain greenery. This is the entry-level Assemblage Blanc; a longer-aged, small-lot version from a special vineyard, Assemblage Blanc Réserve Privée, is bottled separately with a wax-capped premium presentation.

Sommelier's Note

Tainai Kogen's most approachable white — the Chardonnay/Sauvignon Blanc pairing delivers citrus brightness without the price or rarity of its Réserve Privée sibling.

New to wine?

Bright, citrusy, and easy to enjoy — a great first taste of Japanese white wine blends.

Food Pairings

A versatile food wine: pairs well with grilled white fish, shellfish, and cream-based dishes, as well as fresh goat cheese. Its bright acidity also complements citrus-dressed salads.

When to drink it

Everyday dinners, aperitif, and casual gatherings featuring seafood or light dishes.

Terroir & Winemaking

A blend of estate-grown Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc from the same south-southwest-facing, wind-swept slope (approx. 250m elevation) used for the winery's red cuvées. Fermented and aged in stainless steel tanks only, with no oak, to retain varietal freshness and aromatics. ABV 12.5%.

Frequently Asked Questions

What grapes are used in Assemblage Blanc?
It is a blend of Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc, both grown on Tainai Kogen Winery's own steep, wind-swept vineyard slopes in Niigata's Tainai highlands.
How is Assemblage Blanc different from Assemblage Blanc Réserve Privée?
Both are Chardonnay/Sauvignon Blanc blends, but Assemblage Blanc is the winery's standard-line white, fermented and aged only in stainless steel. Réserve Privée uses grapes from a special vineyard plot, is aged for around three years to develop deeper, richer fruit and balanced acidity, and is bottled with a premium wax-capped presentation, making it a limited, higher-priced 'special bottle' rather than an everyday wine.
What does Assemblage Blanc taste like?
It offers lively citrus acidity with delicate acacia and apple blossom aromas, layered over a fuller body and fruit character reminiscent of the surrounding mountain greenery.
What food pairs well with Assemblage Blanc?
It pairs well with grilled or pan-fried white fish, shellfish, tempura, and cream-based dishes, as well as fresh goat cheese and citrus-dressed salads.
