Himawari ("Sunflower") is Shion Winery's pale-pink, medium-dry rosé made from Kyoho grapes grown around Makioka, Yamanashi City. It offers aromas reminiscent of dried cherry, a gentle acidity balanced by juicy, wild-berry fruit character from the Kyoho grape, and a clean, crisp finish with a pleasant lingering note. The hand-applied label features a sunflower painting by Yoshiko Kakemoto.

Sommelier's Note

One of the most food-versatile rosés from Yamanashi -- its Kyoho-driven fruit and clean finish make it a rare rosé that can stand up to oilier Chinese dishes without losing its charm.

New to wine?

An easygoing, medium-dry rosé with gentle acidity and juicy fruit -- a comfortable, crowd-pleasing entry point into Japanese rosé.

Food Pairings

A food-friendly rosé that pairs well with Japanese home cooking and chicken dishes, as well as Chinese cuisine ranging from light fare to richer, oilier dishes -- the wine's fruit character helps mask any bitterness in oyster-sauce-based Chinese dishes. Also good with ratatouille, vegetable soup, and stir-fried pork with cashew nuts.

When to drink it
