Muscat Bailey A is a lighter-bodied red from Sawa Wines, made from 100% Muscat Bailey A grapes grown in the winery's own Yachimata, Chiba vineyards (2020 harvest). Rather than being vinified in-house, the grapes were sent to Katsunuma Jozo, a well-known winery in Yamanashi Prefecture, for contract winemaking. Katsunuma Jozo's approach yields a soft, easy-drinking red with crisp acidity, a citrus-tinged finish, and gentle tannins — a distinctly lighter style than Sawa's oak-aged Muscat Bailey A Rich.
Proof that Muscat Bailey A doesn't have to be tannic — Katsunuma Jozo's contract winemaking coaxes out a crisp, citrus-laced red that redefines what a beginner-friendly red can taste like.
