Syrah is a single-varietal red wine from Nasu 661 Wine Hills in Nasu, Tochigi Prefecture, made from 100% estate-grown Syrah grapes. Small-berried with a deep purple-garnet skin, the fruit yields a bright ruby-colored wine with spicy black pepper and blackberry aromas. The tannins and fruit are well balanced, giving a medium-bodied red that pairs naturally with spice-seasoned lamb and pork dishes. Bottled at 720ml, it is one of the winery's single-vineyard varietal releases alongside its Cabernet Sauvignon and Sauvignon Blanc.

Sommelier's Note

A compact, peppery Syrah that punches above its price — the black pepper and blackberry lift make it one of the winery's most food-friendly reds.

New to wine?

A friendly introduction to Japanese Syrah — spicy and fruity rather than heavy or tannic.

Food Pairings

Classic with spice-rubbed lamb chops and peppered pork, and equally good with grilled sausages or venison. The black pepper note also makes it a natural match for dishes finished with cracked pepper or Sichuan-style spice.

When to drink it

Barbecue and grilled meats, spice-forward dinners, casual gatherings.
