MIZUKI is a medium-to-full-bodied red wine from Nasu 661 Wine Hills, made entirely from Nasu no Shizuku, the winery's own proprietary red grape variety grown on its Tochigi Prefecture estate. Released as a fresh, early-drinking new-vintage wine (the 2025 bottling uses 2025-harvest fruit), it offers the same wild, concentrated character as the winery's flagship Kamikura but in a lighter, more approachable style meant to be enjoyed young rather than long-aged. It is bottled at 720ml and sits at a lower price point than Kamikura, making it the winery's entry-level estate red. It is a distinct bottling from "MIZUKI 「J」," a separate blend of 30% MIZUKI red wine and 70% Kyoho grape rosé.

Sommelier's Note

The little sibling of Kamikura — same wild Nasu no Shizuku character, but bottled young and priced for everyday drinking rather than cellaring.

An approachable, easy-drinking introduction to Nasu 661's estate red wine style.

Food Pairings

Pairs well with grilled and roasted meats, hard cheeses, and other rich, savory dishes — the tannin and concentration stand up to char and fat. Works with yakitori glazed in sweet-savory tare or sukiyaki, echoing the pairing style of the winery's own wood-fired grill terrace.

When to drink it

Everyday dinners with grilled or roasted meat, casual gatherings, an entry point before trying Kamikura.

Terroir & Winemaking

Made from 100% Nasu no Shizuku, an estate-bred proprietary red grape variety. 12% ABV, 720ml bottle. Released as a young-vintage wine rather than long-barrel-aged, in contrast to the winery's flagship Kamikura.

Frequently Asked Questions

What grape is MIZUKI made from?
MIZUKI is made entirely from Nasu no Shizuku, a proprietary red grape variety bred and grown on Nasu 661 Wine Hills' own estate in Tochigi Prefecture — the same grape used in the winery's flagship red, Kamikura.
How is MIZUKI different from Kamikura?
Both use 100% Nasu no Shizuku grapes from the same estate, but Kamikura is aged in new oak barrels for two to four years for a long-aging, full-bodied wine, while MIZUKI is released as a fresh new-vintage wine meant to be enjoyed young, at a lower price point.
What food pairs well with MIZUKI?
Its tannin and concentration pair well with grilled or roasted meats, hard cheeses, and savory sauced dishes such as yakitori or sukiyaki.
Is MIZUKI the same wine as MIZUKI 「J」?
No. MIZUKI is a 100% Nasu no Shizuku red wine, while MIZUKI 「J」 is a separate blend of 30% MIZUKI red wine and 70% Kyoho grape rosé, giving it a lighter, fruitier profile.
