Kontoku Chardonnay is the standard Chardonnay bottling in Kawachi Wine's entry-level 'Kintoku Budoshu' (金徳葡萄酒) series, the historic Osaka producer's everyday line. Under the theme of "drawing out the best of Chardonnay," the winery blends grapes fermented slowly at low temperature in stainless steel with a portion aged for one year in oak barrels, producing a dry white with vivid aromas of green apple and pear and a mineral-driven, stylish structure. It is bottled at 750ml with 12% ABV and sulfites added, as required by Japanese labeling law. It should not be confused with Kawachi Wine's commemorative anniversary Chardonnays — the '-HAJIME- 86th Chardonnay Limited Edition' (a single-vineyard-style 86th-anniversary release) or 'Tokuichi Chardonnay 90th Anniversary' (a barrel-selection release named after founder Tokuichi Kondo) — both of which sit in the winery's separate ANNIVERSARY series.
The blend of tank-fermented freshness and barrel-aged texture gives this everyday Chardonnay more dimension than its price suggests — a reliable house white from one of Osaka's oldest wineries.
