Chardonnay KONTOKUYA Barrel Aged is the flagship white bottling in Kawachi Wine's premium KONTOKUYA series, launched to honor the Osaka producer's 80-plus years of winemaking in Komagatani and to carry a wine worthy of the family's original name, Kondoku-ya (金徳屋). Unlike Kawachi Wine's everyday 'Kontoku Chardonnay' (a blend of stainless-tank fermented and briefly oak-aged lots, ¥2,860) or its anniversary 'Tokuichi Chardonnay 90th' and '-HAJIME- 86th Chardonnay' commemorative releases, KONTOKUYA Chardonnay is produced only in years the winery judges good enough for it, from sun-ripened Chardonnay grapes fermented slowly at low temperature and aged entirely in new French oak barrels. Bottled at 750ml with 12% ABV, it is priced at ¥4,620 and delivers a refined, crisp dry white built to showcase the winery's top-tier winemaking.

Sommelier's Note

This is Kawachi Wine's serious Chardonnay statement — vintage-selective and entirely new-French-oak-aged, it shows a structure and finesse the everyday bottlings simply can't match.

New to wine?

A great next step after Kawachi Wine's everyday Chardonnay — new French oak brings extra richness while the finish stays crisp and dry, so it never feels heavy.

Food Pairings

The richness from new French oak pairs well with roasted chicken, cream-sauced pasta, and semi-hard aged cheeses; its bright acidity also stands up to grilled white fish and seafood.

When to drink it

Special dinners, anniversary celebrations, and gifts for wine lovers who appreciate barrel-aged Japanese Chardonnay.

Terroir & Winemaking

100% Chardonnay. Grapes are fermented slowly at low temperature, then aged entirely in new French oak barrels (no stainless-steel blend). Produced only in vintages the winery deems good enough to bear the KONTOKUYA name. Bottled at 750ml, 12% ABV, sulfites added as required by Japanese labeling law.
