Nadore Mild Red is a sweet, easy-drinking red from Iwate Kuzumaki Wine, sold alongside (and distinct from) the winery's dry Nadore Red. Blending Campbell Early, Hokushu, and Yamabudo (Japanese wild grape), it delivers a bright strawberry-like aroma, fruity sweetness, and the rich, savory depth typical of Yamabudo, at a gentler 8.5% ABV. It has placed repeatedly in the Japan Wine general election's sweet-wine category — 2nd in both 2016 and 2017, and 5th in 2019 — and is marketed by the winery as one of its most approachable, beginner-friendly reds.
Don't confuse this with the dry Nadore Red — Nadore Mild is a distinct, lower-ABV, sweeter line built for anyone who finds typical Yamabudo reds too assertive.
New to wine?
One of Kuzumaki's gentlest reds — fruity, sweet, and low in tannin, making it an easy first step into Yamabudo wines.
Food Pairings
The bright sweetness and Yamabudo-driven umami pair well with teriyaki chicken, sweet-and-sour pork, and soft cheeses like Camembert. Works nicely as a chilled aperitif or alongside light desserts and fresh strawberries.
When to drink it
Casual home drinking, gifts for sweet-wine lovers, or a chilled aperitif.
