Vin Rouge is Ikeda Winery's everyday house red, blending Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot with Japan's own Muscat Bailey A. Unlike the winery's oak-aged, extended-maceration Select Red (Merlot/Syrah), Vin Rouge is made in a fresh, fruit-forward style meant for daily drinking: sweet berry aromas, generous fruit, and soft, easy tannins. Priced well under Select Red, it is the entry point into Ikeda Winery's red wine lineup and one of the winery's best-selling bottles, sold both at the winery and through Yamanashi retailers.

Sommelier's Note

Don't confuse this with Ikeda Winery's Select Red — Vin Rouge is the winery's everyday, fruit-driven table red, while Select Red is the oak-aged, extended-maceration flagship. As a sub-¥2,000 Japanese red built around Muscat Bailey A, it's an honest, drink-now bottle that over-delivers for the price.

New to wine?

The easiest way to start with Ikeda Winery's reds — soft tannins, sweet berry fruit, and a friendly price make it far more approachable than the oak-aged Select Red.

Food Pairings

An easygoing partner for everyday meals: cheese platters, grilled or roasted meats, and pizza all work well. In Japanese-style pairings, try it with yakitori glazed in tare sauce, hamburg steak, or simmered pork dishes — the wine's sweet berry fruit stands up nicely to savory-sweet sauces.

When to drink it

A reliable everyday bottle for weeknight dinners, casual gatherings with friends, or as an affordable introduction to Japanese wine for someone new to the category.
