Hokkaido 100 Niagara is a semi-sweet white wine from Hakodate Winery made with 100% Niagara grapes grown by contract farmers in Yoichi and Niki, Hokkaido, part of the winery's 'Hokkaido 100' series that uses only Hokkaido-grown, wine-specific varieties and carries GI Hokkaido certification. Niagara is an aromatic American hybrid variety prized in Hokkaido for its intensely fragrant, almost foxy-floral bouquet. The wine shows fresh, elegant aromatics with pear- and lychee-like sweetness, balanced by crisp, clean acidity that keeps the off-dry palate lively rather than cloying. It won the Encouragement Award at the 2019 Japan Wine Competition and is sold in both 720ml and 200ml formats.

Sommelier's Note

The most aromatically expressive bottling in Hakodate Winery's Hokkaido 100 line — its pear-and-lychee lift makes it an ideal gateway wine for anyone new to Japanese white wine.

New to wine?

A fragrant, gently sweet white that's an easy, welcoming first step into Japanese wine — no sharp acidity or tannin to worry about.

Food Pairings

Its floral sweetness and bright acidity pair well with fresh seafood, sashimi, and light salads, and it also matches fruit-forward desserts and mild soft cheeses. Try it with sushi or tempura for a refreshing contrast.

When to drink it

Casual afternoon gatherings, picnics, or as an aperitif before a meal.

Terroir & Winemaking

Made from 100% Niagara grapes grown by contract farmers in Yoichi and Niki, Hokkaido, certified under GI Hokkaido. Low-temperature fermentation preserves the variety's volatile aromatic compounds; no oak aging is used to keep the fruit character clean and fresh. 12% ABV, sold in 720ml and 200ml bottles.
