Rosé
RoséMuscat Bailey A
This rosé from Funakoshi Winery is made from Muscat Bailey A grapes grown in Hitachi-Ota City, Ibaraki Prefecture, one of the farming areas the winery sources from while it develops its own vineyards in Tako, Chiba. On the palate, subtle yeast nuances come through first, followed by juicy, expansive red fruit and a well-judged acidity that keeps the wine in balance. It is a wine that rewards a little patience in the glass, its character shifting gently as it warms and opens up. In keeping with Funakoshi Winery's low-intervention house style, sulfite use is kept minimal throughout production.

Goodness
RoséSparklingMuscat Bailey A
Goodness is Funakoshi Winery's lightly sparkling (pétillant) rosé, made from Muscat Bailey A grapes sourced from Hitachiota, Ibaraki Prefecture. The grapes are destemmed, crushed, and given a three-day cold maceration in stainless steel before pressing; the wine then undergoes a secondary in-bottle fermentation, unfiltered and left on its fine lees, with only 30 ppm of sulfites added at the start of fermentation and none at bottling. The result is a slightly hazy, vivid ruby-colored wine with delicate micro-bubbles — fresh strawberry aromas open up after time in the glass, contrasted by a surprisingly dry, crisp palate at 12% ABV.

Getsuyama No. 1
RedGetsuyama No. 1 (Yamabudo)
Getsuyama No. 1 is Funakoshi Winery's rare 100% wild-grape (yamabudo) red, made from the Getsuyama No. 1 cultivar — a mountain grape variety prized for its naturally high sugar content, selected and propagated from wild vines found growing in Japan's mountains. For this bottling, the grapes were sourced from Nagano Prefecture, and the wine was crafted under the guidance of Go Shiose of Le Milieu, the Azumino-based natural winery that also trained Funakoshi's own winemaker, Natsumi Tobari. The result is a deeply colored, spicy, wild-natured red with concentrated dark fruit and a well-balanced structure of body, acidity, and tannin — a rustic, terroir-driven expression that stands apart from Funakoshi's Ibaraki Muscat Bailey A-based wines.
