Cascina Roccalini is a small, family-run estate in the Barbaresco DOCG, founded in 2003 by Paolo Veglio, whose family has farmed the Roccalini vineyard since 1920. Until his first vintage in 2004, the grapes from this prized south-west-facing, clay-marl plot overlooking the Tanaro river were sold to the legendary Bruno Giacosa. Since then, Paolo — guided by oenologist Dante Scaglione, formerly a longtime consultant to Giacosa — has farmed Nebbiolo, Barbera, and Dolcetto organically across roughly 9 hectares, without herbicides or synthetic treatments. The wines are fermented with wild yeasts using the traditional cappello sommerso (submerged cap) maceration and aged in large Slavonian oak casks, producing a small, artisanal range crowned by the elegant, perfumed Barbaresco Roccalini.
