Essenzia

エッセンツィア ディ カイアロッサ

Caiarossa

Petit Verdot · Cabernet Franc · Cabernet Sauvignon · Syrah · Alicante

About this wine

Essenzia is Caiarossa's rarest and most exclusive label — a magnum-only special bottling produced solely in exceptional vintages when a single varietal lot or micro-blend stands out from the harvest. Its composition changes with every release: past editions have been Syrah-Alicante (2009), Cabernet Sauvignon-Alicante (2011), 100% Cabernet Franc (2012), and Petit Verdot-based blends in more recent years. It is not made annually.

Beginner's Note

A collector's bottling rather than an introductory wine — seek it out once you already know the estate.

Sommelier's Note

"Essenzia is Caiarossa's vintage diary in liquid form — made only when the estate finds something worth bottling on its own, which makes every release a genuinely different wine."

Food Pairings

A concentrated, collector's red whose profile varies by vintage — generally best with roasted or grilled red meat, aged cheese, or simply enjoyed on its own as a contemplative pour.

When to drink it

Frequently Asked Questions

How often is Essenzia produced?
Not every year — only in vintages when the estate identifies a standout single-variety lot or micro-blend worth bottling separately, and always in magnum format.
What grapes are used in Essenzia?
It varies by release: past vintages have featured Syrah-Alicante, Cabernet Sauvignon-Alicante, 100% Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot-led blends.
Why is Essenzia only sold in magnum?
The larger 1.5L format is a deliberate choice by the estate to emphasize the wine's rarity and slower aging potential.
Is Essenzia easy to find?
No — it is one of the rarest labels from Caiarossa, produced in very limited quantities only in select years.
