Founded in 1950 by Enrico Sordo in Castiglione Falletto, in the heart of the Barolo region, the Pugnane estate is a historic, family-run winery — distinct from the better-known Sordo Giovanni winery, also based in Castiglione Falletto. It is now run by Enrico's son Giovanni together with grandsons Franco and Enrico. The estate farms roughly 15 hectares across Castiglione Falletto, Monforte d'Alba and La Morra, with 8 hectares in Castiglione Falletto centered on the prestigious Villero cru. The Sordo family favors traditional winemaking, aging Barolo in large Slavonian oak barrels to preserve the authentic character of Nebbiolo, and practices sustainable viticulture without chemical fertilizers or herbicides to protect the terroir of the Langhe hills.
