2024 VINUM 'Winemaker of the Year' for the Mittelrhein, crafting precise, terroir-driven Riesling from the steep slate slopes of Bopparder Hamm.

About Weingut Weingart

Weingut Weingart is a family-run estate in Spay on the Mittelrhein, run by Florian and Ulrike Weingart since 1996 after generations of family winegrowing in the steep slopes of the Bopparder Hamm. The estate farms top parcels including Bopparder Hamm, Ohlenberg, Feuerlay, Engelstein and Mandelstein, on slate-derived soils that are ideal for Riesling, which makes up over 90% of production alongside small amounts of Spätburgunder. Working with minimal intervention and a sustainable, hands-on approach, Florian Weingart lets each wine express its own character rather than forcing it into a fixed style or legal classification, producing dry, off-dry (feinherb) and sweet Rieslings prized for their precision, minerality and aging potential. The estate was named 'Winzer des Jahres' (Winemaker of the Year) for the Mittelrhein in the 2024 VINUM Weinguide Deutschland, cementing its position among the region's very best producers.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the signature style of Weingut Weingart?
The estate specializes in dry, off-dry (feinherb) and sweet Rieslings that showcase intense minerality, vibrant acidity and the distinct slate character of the Mittelrhein, made with minimal cellar intervention.
Why is the Bopparder Hamm vineyard significant?
Bopparder Hamm is the largest contiguous vineyard area on the Middle Rhine. Its steep, south-facing slopes and mixed slate soils give the Weingart family's Rieslings their concentration and minerality.
What is Florian Weingart's winemaking philosophy?
Florian Weingart believes a wine should be allowed to become what it wants to be rather than being forced into a fixed style; wines that do not fit the legal Prädikat categories are sometimes simply bottled outside the usual nomenclature.
What makes the 2024 VINUM award significant?
Being named 'Winzer des Jahres' (Winemaker of the Year) for the Mittelrhein in the VINUM Weinguide Deutschland 2024 confirmed Weingart's status as one of the region's top producers, recognized for consistency and quality across its range.
Do Weingart wines pair well with Japanese cuisine?
Yes. The high acidity and refined mineral structure of these Rieslings make them excellent companions for sushi, tempura and lightly seasoned seafood dishes.
