Located in the Mashino district of Matsukawa Town in Nagano's Ina Valley — a postwar settler community that became an apple-growing region — Shinshu Mashino Wine Co., Ltd. was founded in 1991, evolving from an apple-processing cooperative established in 1987 by the district's second-generation settlers. Under winemaker Yoshiyoshi Miyazawa, who believes that 'great wine regions are not born but made through human effort,' the winery crafts single-varietal wines and ciders from classic grapes (Chardonnay, Merlot, Shinano Riesling, Cabernet Sauvignon) alongside distinctly local fruit — Campbell Early grapes, wild Yamabudo grapes, apples, La France pears, quince, and plums. Its apple wine earned international recognition, representing Asia as the sole entrant at the 2011 International Apfelwein Fair in Frankfurt, Germany.
