Futahashira Rouge is Seven Cedars Winery's flagship red, a field blend of Petit Verdot (52%) and Merlot (48%) grown together in the winery's own "Futahashira" vineyard in Fuji-Kawaguchiko. The 2024 vintage is the first release of the winery's estate-vineyard series, made to express the still-untested terroir of Fuji-Kawaguchiko with careful, deliberate winemaking. It shows a clean, deep ruby color, with aromas of dried plum and black cherry compote layered with clove-like spice, vanilla and nutty oak, and a faint touch of mint. The palate opens with a hint of sweetness, rounded acidity edging into umami, and abundant yet supple, well-integrated tannins that reward decanting and further bottle age. Production is limited to 972 bottles.
The debut vintage of Seven Cedars' own Futahashira vineyard, and it announces itself with real ambition — dense dried-plum and black-cherry fruit wrapped in supple, well-judged tannin that only gets better with air.
New to wine?
A structured, full-bodied red with dark fruit and gentle oak spice — best opened ahead of time or decanted to let its supple tannins unfold.
Food Pairings
Built for richer dishes: grilled beef with red wine sauce, seared foie gras with Périgueux sauce, grilled venison with plum sauce, and chocolate terrine with a red-berry sauce all echo its ripe fruit and supple tannin.
When to drink it
