Yokawa Rouge is SAYS FARM's signature red blend, named after the Yokawa district of Himi, Toyama, where the estate's own hillside vines overlook Toyama Bay and the Tateyama mountain range. It is an assemblage of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Sangiovese grown on the estate — a blend whose exact proportions shift each vintage (for example roughly 52% Merlot, 29% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 19% Sangiovese in 2020, versus a simpler 60/40 Merlot-Sangiovese blend in 2021) as the winery fine-tunes the expression of the Yokawa parcel. Production is tightly limited, at times to only around 1,300–1,800 bottles per vintage. The wine shows soft, approachable tannins and an elegant, mineral-inflected fruit character shaped by the sea breeze and maritime climate of Himi, with recent vintages trending toward a lighter, more distinctly Japanese style with notes of strawberry and a subtle nutty undertone.
A rare, tightly-allocated red that captures Himi's maritime terroir through an ever-evolving Merlot-Cabernet-Sangiovese blend — worth seeking out each vintage for how the winery reinterprets it.
