A 100% Delaware white wine from Sanyo Wine, made from grapes grown by relatives of the winemaker — growers Masaki and Hitomi Narushima — in Sakaigawa, Fuefuki City, Yamanashi Prefecture. Delaware is best known in Japan as a table grape, but here it's vinified into a dry white showing ripe yellow-peach aromas, balanced sweetness, crisp acidity and a faint, pleasant bitterness that becomes progressively drier as the wine breathes. The winemaker deliberately leans into the grape's natural tannin and bitterness, believing it makes the wine more food-friendly, adjusting extraction each vintage based on how the fruit tastes. Best served well chilled; once opened, its light tannic grip intensifies, so it's meant to be enjoyed promptly. The label, illustrated by Neko Yuko, evokes a playful 'hello from outer space' concept.

Sommelier's Note

Delaware is often dismissed as a simple table grape, but Sanyo Wine's version proves it can carry real tannic structure and food-pairing ambition — this is not candy-sweet Delaware, it's dry, textured, and serious.

New to wine?

A gentle, approachable introduction to Japanese Delaware wine — familiar peachy sweetness balanced by crisp acidity.

Food Pairings

Its bright acidity and gentle bitterness make it a natural match for dishes with a touch of char or fat — think grilled chicken, tempura, or yakitori with tare sauce — while its yellow-peach fruit works equally well alongside soft cheeses.

When to drink it

Everyday dinners, aperitif, or a first taste of Japan's most planted table grape turned into wine.

Terroir & Winemaking

Delaware sourced entirely from a single family-grower plot in Sakaigawa, Fuefuki City. Extraction (skin contact) is calibrated vintage to vintage based on tasting the fruit, since the winemaker holds that tannin and bitterness improve food-friendliness. Bottled with screw cap (Still Vin), 750ml, ABV 12%. Best from around February following the vintage; store and serve chilled at 12-15°C, and drink promptly after opening as tannins build with air exposure.

In Japan, Delaware is mostly grown as a table grape, but Sanyo Wine ferments it into a food-friendly dry white that leans into its natural tannin and bitterness rather than hiding them.
What food pairs well with this wine?
Its acidity and light bitterness make it a good match for grilled or glazed dishes like yakitori and tempura, as well as soft cheeses.
How should it be served?
Well chilled, around 12-15°C, and ideally finished soon after opening since the tannins become more pronounced with air exposure.
