Podere Casina is a small, family-run organic winery in the Maremma, founded in 1987 when Swiss painter Rahel Kimmich and her husband Marcello Pirisi bought an abandoned 45-hectare farm between the villages of Istia d'Ombrone and Scansano, near Grosseto. Of that land, roughly 11-12 hectares are under vine, planted almost entirely to Sangiovese (locally 'Morellino') with a small parcel of Syrah, farmed without herbicides or synthetic chemicals and officially certified organic since the 2021 vintage. Marcello Pirisi oversees the winemaking together with consulting oenologist Emiliano Falsini, while Rahel Kimmich shapes the estate's artistic identity, from label art to the tasting room. The range centers on Morellino di Scansano DOCG, flanked by Maremma Toscana DOC bottlings (the Sangiovese-based Aione and the Syrah-based Rah) and a handful of Toscana IGT wines, all built to express the warm, coastal terroir of the Maremma rather than the cooler Chianti Classico hills further north.
