MARO Wines Rouge is the red bottling of MARO Wines' entry-level "THE TABLE" line, made by winemaker Naoyuki Maro at his self-licensed Hokkaido SPACE Winery in Naganuma. Like its Blanc counterpart, the TABLE philosophy deliberately omits the exact grape variety from the label, presenting the wine simply as a "delicious red wine" expressing Hokkaido's character; the blend and its source vineyards shift from vintage to vintage (grower partners in Niki and Yoichi have both been used). Unfiltered and gently extracted with soft tannins, it shows lively red berry aromas and a concentrated, fruit-forward palate with a smooth, easy-drinking finish — built as an everyday companion to the table rather than a wine to dissect varietal by varietal.
By refusing to name the grape, MARO Wines Rouge asks to be judged purely on how it drinks — and it drinks beautifully: soft, bright, and endlessly food-friendly. A model of what an everyday Hokkaido red can be.
New to wine?
A gentle, low-tannin entry point into Hokkaido red wine — fruity, soft, and easy to enjoy without overthinking the variety.
Food Pairings
Pairs easily with ham, sausages, and glazed or teriyaki-style meat dishes. Its soft tannins and bright fruit also work well with simple home cooking such as simmered pork or chicken.
When to drink it
Casual weeknight dinners, home-cooked meals, and relaxed gatherings with friends.
Terroir & Winemaking
Unfiltered red made with minimal intervention at Hokkaido SPACE Winery; the grape composition is not fixed and has varied by vintage (e.g. Dornfelder from Niki in one year, a Zweigelt-Pinot Noir blend from Yoichi in another), fermented and aged in stainless steel with gentle extraction to keep tannins soft. ABV 11.5%.
