MARO Wines Pinot Noir is the flagship red of winemaker Naoyuki Maro's THE SIGNATURE line, brewed at his self-licensed Hokkaido SPACE Winery in Naganuma, Hokkaido. Unlike the entry-level THE TABLE bottlings, which deliberately keep their blend undisclosed, THE SIGNATURE wines name their single variety on the label and are reserved for cuvées that have proven themselves as a 'standard' over multiple vintages. Released in December 2025 as MARO Wines' first fully red-vinified, 100% Pinot Noir (following an earlier 2022 Blanc de Noir bottling of the same variety), it shows charming, vivid red-fruit aromatics layered with a distinctive savory umami character reminiscent of shiitake mushrooms and kombu seaweed, fine-grained tannins, and a light, elegant body that reflects Hokkaido's cool-climate terroir.
The wine that proves Hokkaido Pinot Noir can speak in umami as fluently as fruit — MARO Wines' first true red expression of the variety is not to be missed.

Terroir & Winemaking
100% Pinot Noir grown in Hokkaido and vinified at Maro's own Hokkaido SPACE Winery in Naganuma; part of THE SIGNATURE tier, reserved for cuvées the winemaker has refined into a 'standard' over multiple vintages, and produced in keeping with the line's minimal-intervention, wild-yeast philosophy shared with the other SIGNATURE bottlings. ABV 12.5%. First red-vinified Pinot Noir release for the brand (December 2025), following the 2022 Blanc de Noir bottling.

- What grape variety is used in MARO Wines Pinot Noir?
- It is made from 100% Pinot Noir grown in Hokkaido. As a THE SIGNATURE bottling, its single variety is named openly on the label.
- How is THE SIGNATURE Pinot Noir different from MARO Wines Rouge (THE TABLE series)?
- THE TABLE's Rouge deliberately withholds its exact blend, which can also shift from vintage to vintage, presenting itself simply as 'a delicious red wine.' THE SIGNATURE Pinot Noir, by contrast, is a single-variety wine that has proven itself as a 'standard' bottling over multiple vintages, with more defined structure and complexity.
- What does MARO Wines Pinot Noir taste like?
- It offers charming, vivid red-fruit aromas layered with a distinctive savory umami character reminiscent of shiitake mushrooms and kombu, fine-grained tannins, and a light, elegant body.
- Is this MARO Wines' first red Pinot Noir?
- Yes. Released in December 2025, it is the brand's first fully red-vinified 100% Pinot Noir, following an earlier 2022 bottling made in a Blanc de Noir style.
