LIBRA RYU-GAN ORANGE is Le Milieu's rare orange wine made from 100% Ryugan (Ryu-gan), Nagano Prefecture's only indigenous white grape variety, native to the Kikyogahara area. Grapes are grown at the winery's own vineyards in Azumino City and fermented on the skins, giving the wine a pale amber-orange hue and reductive, herbal aromatics layered with lemon citrus notes. On the palate, soft mandarin-like acidity and fruit meet gentle tannins from the skin contact, finishing with a subtle, balancing bitterness. It is believed to be the only orange wine in Japan crafted from the Ryugan variety.

Sommelier's Note

Believed to be Japan's only orange wine made from the native Ryugan grape — a genuinely one-of-a-kind bottle that showcases Nagano's own indigenous variety in a style few producers attempt.

New to wine?

A gentle, approachable first orange wine — the low 8% ABV and soft citrus-driven acidity make it easy to enjoy even if you've never tried skin-contact white wine before.

Food Pairings

The herbal, citrusy profile and gentle tannins make this wine versatile with a wide range of dishes: try it with steamed dumplings, herb-crusted white fish, or mildly spiced Asian dishes. Its skin-contact texture also stands up well to umami-rich vegetable dishes.

When to drink it

Casual gatherings with friends, an introduction to Japanese indigenous grape varieties, or a conversation-starting bottle for wine enthusiasts exploring orange wine.

Terroir & Winemaking

Made from 100% Ryugan, a white grape variety indigenous to the Kikyogahara area of Nagano Prefecture, grown in Le Milieu's own Azumino vineyards. Fermented with extended skin contact (maceration on the skins) rather than as a conventional white wine, which extracts color, aromatic compounds, and light tannins, producing the wine's characteristic pale amber-orange hue. ABV 8%, bottled at 750ml.
