Miyukihana White is the flagship white wine of Iwanohara Vineyard, Japan's historic winery founded in 1890 in Joetsu, Niigata by Zenbei Kawakami, the 'Father of Japanese Wine.' The name Miyukihana ('deep-snow blossom') evokes the delicate snow camellias that bloom through Joetsu's heavy winter snowfall. The wine blends European Chardonnay with Rose Shioter, a proprietary grape variety Kawakami himself bred in 1927 by crossing Bailey with Chasselas Siotar. Natural juice clarification and low-temperature fermentation preserve the fruit's delicate character, producing a fresh, aromatic, dry white made in a limited annual production of around 20,000 bottles.
Iwanohara's flagship white distills over a century of pioneering Japanese viticulture into a single glass — Chardonnay meets Kawakami Zenbei's own Rose Shioter for a wine that is unmistakably of Niigata. Its repeated medals at the Japan Wine Competition and Feminalise World Wine Competition confirm what long-time fans already know: this is one of the most reliably excellent everyday Japanese whites on the market.
