Historic Suvereto estate saving the rare Giacomino grape
Il Bruscello is a family-run winery in Suvereto, Tuscany, cultivated by the Topi family across four generations. Since the 1980s the estate — led today by Laura Topi and her son, winemaker Michele Celembrini — has embraced modern viticulture while preserving the character of the Val di Cornia. Locally the property is also known as 'Cantina Togliatti', after a 1949 visit by Italian politician Palmiro Togliatti and Nilde Iotti. Alongside Sangiovese, Trebbiano, Ansonica, Barbera, Malvasia, Merlot, Cabernet, Vermentino and Viognier, Il Bruscello safeguards Giacomino, a near-extinct native variety documented since Etruscan times, used in wines such as the rosé 'Il Cipressino' and the Suvereto DOCG red 'Boccalupo'.
