Portland - Kurauchi Farm is a single-varietal white from Housui Winery's 'Housui Wine Series' -- the line built from table grapes grown by local farming families in Housui-cho, Iwamizawa, Hokkaido, as opposed to the winery's wine-grape RICCA and Yuki no Keifu lines. It is made entirely from Portland, an aromatic American-bred table grape long familiar in Hokkaido, grown on roughly 40-year-old vines at Kurauchi Farm. This vineyard has special significance: it was the trellised Portland plot belonging to the Kurauchi family that caught the eye of Iwamizawa's mayor in 2002, inspiring the local growers' cooperative that became Housui Winery in 2006 -- the same Portland fruit also appears as the white component blended into the winery's Orange Pink rosé. Vinified simply to let the grape's own character speak, it shows candy-like, muscat, and apple aromatics with a fruity, off-dry (chukuchi) palate that balances gentle sweetness against clean acidity. Alcohol content is not fixed and varies somewhat by vintage.
This is the bottle that tells Housui Winery's origin story -- the very Portland vines at Kurauchi Farm that inspired the winery's founding, poured straight into the glass. A must-try for anyone curious about Hokkaido's table-grape winemaking tradition.

Terroir & Winemaking
Made from 100% Portland grapes grown on roughly 40-year-old vines at Kurauchi Farm in Housui-cho, Iwamizawa, Hokkaido -- the founding vineyard behind Housui Winery's establishment. Vinified with minimal intervention to preserve the grape's natural character, finished off-dry (chukuchi). Alcohol content is not fixed and has ranged roughly 8-11% across recent vintages, so it is intentionally left unspecified here; refer to the label of each vintage.
