Housui Winery is a pioneering producer in Hokkaido's Sorachi wine region, founded through a local growers' cooperative in 2004 and licensed as a winery in 2006 in Housui-cho, Iwamizawa. Working in one of Japan's snowiest wine districts, winemaker Yuki Kubodera focuses on listening to the land and the grapes rather than relying purely on technique, drawing out the minerality and subtle salinity of the Housui terroir. Chardonnay is considered the variety that best expresses the estate's character, and the RICCA series — made entirely from estate-grown fruit — has won consecutive gold medals at the Japan Wine Competition and honors at the Sakura Wine Award.
