Rosé Sakura Merlot is Grandvert Vineyard's signature 100% Merlot rosé, sourced from the Hosaka (Nirasaki) and Hakushu (Hokuto) vineyards in Yamanashi's Yatsugatake foothills. Named for its delicate sakura-pink hue, the wine shows a different personality each vintage: the 2024 release is light and elegant with raspberry, white peach and rose aromas, while the 2025 vintage is richer and off-dry, with notes of forest honey and dried persimmon. Across vintages it remains a food-friendly, terroir-driven expression of high-altitude Yamanashi Merlot.
Proof that Japanese rosé can be as serious as it is pretty — a 100% Merlot rosé that changes character by vintage yet always over-delivers for the price.
New to wine?
A great way to try a serious, food-friendly Japanese rosé that goes beyond the usual light-and-sweet stereotype.
Food Pairings
The richer, off-dry 2025 vintage pairs beautifully with sweet-and-sour dishes such as chili shrimp or subuta (sweet and sour pork), and with aged cheeses like Mimolette. The lighter, drier 2024 vintage suits fresh seafood, citrus-dressed salads, and light Japanese appetizers.
When to drink it
Casual dinners paired with Chinese or Japanese dishes, or a gift that showcases the diversity of Japanese rosé.
Terroir & Winemaking
Made from 100% Merlot grown in the Hosaka (Nirasaki) and Hakushu (Hokuto) districts of Yamanashi. Style varies by vintage: the 2024 bottling (1,063 bottles, bottled May 2025) used Opale 2.0/M yeast for a lighter profile; the 2025 bottling is finished in a richer, off-dry style with pH 3.56 and total acidity 5.71g/L.
