Despite its name referencing Awaji, Awaji-Yui Chardonnay is a 100% Chardonnay white wine from Grandvert Vineyard, crafted from grapes grown in Hakushu, Hokuto City, Yamanashi Prefecture, at an elevation of roughly 750 meters at the foot of the Southern Japan Alps. The cool climate and granite-derived soils of Hakushu — long prized for the purity of its spring water — give the wine a crystalline acidity from stainless-steel fermentation, softened by a silky texture from roughly 40% late-harvest fruit blended in. The result is a wine of remarkable clarity and precision, with aromas of Japanese pear, white peach, and delicate apricot blossom.

Sommelier's Note

Don't let the 'Awaji' in the name mislead you — this is a Hakushu-grown Chardonnay through and through, and one of the most texturally precise cool-climate whites coming out of Yamanashi right now.

New to wine?

A pure, high-clarity Chardonnay that's easy to love even for first-time Japanese wine drinkers — refreshing acidity with just enough richness.

Food Pairings

Designed to pair with 'subtractive' cuisine that doesn't cloud its clarity — fresh white fish cured with kombu (kobujime), thinly sliced turnip, and other dishes that let quiet natural sweetness shine. Also excellent with sushi, tempura, and soft, delicate cheeses.

When to drink it

A quiet evening at home, a refined dinner with delicate Japanese dishes, or a thoughtful gift for someone discovering Japanese wine.
