Produced from grapes grown in the Ohasama district of Hanamaki City, Iwate Prefecture, this dry white wine has a distinctive origin: in 2015, Edelwein received Grüner Veltliner vine cuttings from the city of Berndorf, Austria, to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the two cities' friendship-city relationship. Edelwein cultivated, harvested, and vinified the grapes, becoming the first winery to commercialize a Japanese wine made from this variety. Grown in Ohasama's mildly alkaline limestone soils, the wine shows aromas reminiscent of ripe citrus, with a gentle acidity and a soft, smooth mouthfeel.

Sommelier's Note

The first commercialized Japanese wine made from Grüner Veltliner — a quietly historic bottle born from a 2015 Austria-Japan friendship-city gift of vine cuttings, grown on Ohasama's limestone soils.
